Trim Levels
Hyundai makes the Kona in four trims. The lineup starts with the SE and SEL, and the top half consists of the N Line and Limited. Interior and Exterior
Though it's on the smaller side of the spectrum, the Kona has a spacious cabin. Three people can sit together in the second row, which offers 38.2 inches of legroom. The cargo area has 25.5 cubic feet of storage space, and that cargo capacity can increase to 63.7 cubic feet if you lower the rear seatbacks. The SE and SEL come standard with cloth upholstery, the N Line comes with black Alcantara seats, and the Limited features H-Tex leatherette seats. Many trims have eight-way power-adjustable driver's seats that can quickly adjust, and they can have heated front seats, too. The Limited takes things one step further by having ventilation in its front row.
Hyundai has upgraded the Kona's exterior style in important ways this year. It made changes to the front of the SUV. Now, it looks more modern and sleeker with an LED light strip running across its front end. The LED headlights are less obvious than they were before, as Hyundai cleverly integrated them into the fenders. A similar LED strip is available at the rear of the SUV, and this feature helps with visibility and adds to the futuristic feel of the Kona. All trims are fortunate to have automatic headlights and high beams, and some Kona models offer heated side mirrors with LED turn signal indicators. A twin-tip exhaust contributes to the N Line's sporty style. This trim is the only one with gloss black side mirrors and body-colored cladding.
Performance
The SE and SEL make 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, thanks to their 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines that work with intelligent variable transmissions. The N Line and Limited, on the other hand, produce 190 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. They use turbocharged 1.6-liter engines paired with eight-speed automatic transmissions to take you around the Tri-County area. These trims can come with front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrains, and they offer Drive Mode Select programs that let you customize your experience when you get behind the wheel.
Technology
This year, every new Kona comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Additionally, there can be a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that will keep you informed about how your SUV is doing. SiriusXM, HD Radio, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are available for the infotainment system in all the trims, and navigation is also available. Additionally, the Kona can come with a digital key program, wireless charging, and multiple USB ports.
Safety
The Kona can help you stay out of trouble in multiple ways. It has blind-spot warning, forward collision warning, and several other monitoring systems that will alert you to potential issues.
